Thesis Essay for the “Untitled Michael/Todd Short Film Project”

Young Man

The film will begin with voiceover as with the multi-Oscar winning, American Beauty. As you can see in the clip provided, Alan Ball uses voiceover as an omniscient narration to his tale of life, love and the human condition.[1]

By starting with Bullet dead, we immediately engage the issue of mortality, and are struck by Young Man's tragic, but inevitable, encounter with the temporal nature of man, highlighted by the symbolic wilted flowers. This coming of age through loss is a clear homage to the 1983 Francis Ford Coppola classic, The Outsiders. In the clip, we see Pony Boy, wracked with emotion as he watches his mentor and friend pass away, and we realize the full fragility of life.[2]

For the climactic rising action we must stage our scene in a bathtub. It is a place for both young and old; the infant and the invalid. It represents both life and death. The process of bathing can be likened to a baptism, a rebirth for the characters, such as in Zach Braff's tour de force, Garden State.[3]

As far as the ideas of my film partner, Todd, are concerned, rest assured there will be no ridiculous car chase (which if you watch that Stallone clip, you'll see the setting clearly jump from downtown LA to Paramount backlots to Hollywood and Linden to Venice to Long Beach Harbor! Completely destroying all willing suspension of disbelief!). There will also be no guns, no gratuitous slow motion shots, no “hot chicks,” and above all else, no explosions.

By stating goals and citing references, I can assure that my film will retain the utmost purity in vision.

Young Man

What up? So Im doing anotehr film with tardoMcgee, the “film genious” Michael. Im thinking its gonna have all kinds of awesome stuff it in, cuz we already did one with his ideas and it blew chunks! Tehres this one scene in Transformers where this hot chick ***she is soooioo hot!!1!*** is all like being hot and stuff and this big transformer flies all over her and just misse her and its like wht? No way that didnt hit her! Here, watch it and comment on it.

Theres also gonna be a car chase, cuz thats what makes a movie good. Nothing is more exciting than cars sqeeling tires and going eeeee around corners and you can see the smoke and theres a truck but you just miss it and then another car and you miss it and then a car gets flipped and explodes a bulding up and you need to go to the bathroom but you cant get out your seat cuz you know ull miss the best part which is always at the end when all the cars come in at once and they flip and crash and explode and the only car left is the dude who u knew would make it in the end but you werent totally for sure. Heres the best car chase I know. Its stalone man! He dont mess around.

The best part I saved for the end. The two dudes which will be us we will be all running and sweaty and it will all be one shot like in that one Clooney movie where he has a beard and out of nowhere its like – BOOOOM! The car expdoles and were like WHAM thrown on the ground from the force waves of the fireball. Then we look back like wow, that could have been us. Wouldnt that be siiiick!?!??

Michael wants to do gay stuff like two dudes in a bathtub and dudes crying and flowers and other gay gay crap. That aint happenin. This film will blow your face off and youll be like, did I ever even have a face? And ill be like, you did but not anymore, and well watch it agian.
